A newton can't convert to psi by itself: pressure = force ÷ area. This calculator first converts N to lbf (× 0.2248089431), then divides by your area in square inches.
Example: 500 N pressing on 2 in² → 112.40 lbf ÷ 2 = 56.20 psi. Same force on 0.5 in² → 224.81 psi — a quarter the area, four times the pressure.
If you already have pascals
When your starting value is a pressure (N/m², i.e. pascals) rather than a raw force, skip the area input: 1 psi = 6,894.76 Pa, so psi = Pa ÷ 6,894.76. A 220 kPa tire runs at 31.9 psi.
The distinction matters: “500 N of pressure” in casual speech is usually a force; genuine pressure always carries a per-area unit.
