Multiply N·m by 0.7375621493 to get ft·lb. Standard metric bolt classes make good landmarks: an M8 class 8.8 bolt torques to ~25 N·m (18.4 ft·lb); M10 to ~49 N·m (36.1 ft·lb); M12 to ~86 N·m (63.4 ft·lb).

Torque-to-yield and angle specs
Modern engines often quote a base torque plus a rotation angle, e.g. “30 N·m + 90°”. Only the base figure converts (30 N·m = 22.13 ft·lb); the angle stays the same in any unit system.
